Recently I had the pleasure of speaking to Alex Charfen. There are plenty of alignments between Alex’s work and Body Reset as we coach at the intersection of health and business.
In the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship, success often feels like an elusive target, forever shifting and evolving. Yet, amidst the chaos, the entrepreneur gets trapped in what feels like a never-ending cycle of stress and reactivity. When we look to address and calibrate our central nervous system (CNS), our ability to perform, lead and grow becomes unlocked.
Alex Charfen’s expertise lies in providing entrepreneurs with the tools and systems small businesses need to thrive in the competitive landscape of the ever-evolving business world of innovation. Through his years of experience and in-depth understanding of the entrepreneurial journey, Charfen has become a trusted advisor and mentor to many business owners seeking sustainable growth and success.
Personal Relationships.
Charfen and I talked about the most overlooked concept for entrepreneurs which is personal relationships. He told me a jaw-dropping fact that the average couple only has 33 minutes a week of face-to-face conversation. Yet to prioritize and nurture your relationship with your partner can be one of the most stabilizing things you can do as an entrepreneur for your central nervous system.
Charfen outlined a structured approach to relationship management, drawing from his own experience with his wife, Katie. They have developed a set of systems and practices, including daily alignment sessions and intentional expressions of gratitude, to strengthen their bond and foster open communication.
Success in entrepreneurship is a reflection of our own personal decisions in our day-to-day life. It’s who you marry, it’s who you hang out with, how you treat your body and what you do every day for yourself. A thriving partnership can serve as a stabilizing force amid the challenges of entrepreneurship.
Success in community.
Alex and I talked about the role of the community in fostering growth and transformation. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals who share similar goals and aspirations can provide invaluable support and inspiration along the entrepreneurial journey. Alex & I have both witnessed firsthand the power of collective wisdom and encouragement in propelling individuals towards their goals.
What does success look like?
I asked Alex ‘what does success look like to you?’ He had an eye-opening answer for me. He said; “Balance. I can integrate what I have to do in the day for my business, to do what I want to do, to take care of myself, spend time with my family, that’s true success.”
Success is no longer measured solely by financial milestones or material gains. Instead, it’s about achieving a state of central nervous system regulation, a profound sense of well-being that permeates every aspect of life. The irony is that when he spent more time with his wife and daughters than when he was killing himself trying to reach those financial milestones, more financial success and abundance showed up in his life as a result.
Final thoughts
One of the key themes to take from the podcast was the importance of delegation. The goal of freeing yourself from the burden of micromanaging mundane tasks and instead honing in on endeavors that resonate with your personal strengths and passions.
Charfen talks about his journey from what he termed a “personality manager” to adopting a more structured, process-oriented leadership style. Through this shift, he emphasized the implementation of clear systems and the empowerment of his team members. By entrusting responsibilities to capable individuals and providing them with the necessary tools and support, Charfen effectively reclaimed invaluable time and energy. This newfound focus enabled him to channel his efforts into endeavors that aligned with his vision instead of wasting time on those daily tasks.
This chat was so aligned and so relevant for how we coach business owners to get their body and energy back. You can’t expect your health to improve if you myopically focus on nutrition and exercise. When you build reliable systems in your business that allows you to get out of this reactivity spiral and regulate your CNS, your impact, your enjoyment and your inner peace with grow to a new level.
